Curatorial Objectives
Driven by Art Manzil’s founder, Niyash Mistry, we take a long longue-duree curatorial approach, placing emphasis on overarching historical structures and the ways in which they manifest in contemporary artistic expressions.
Our thesis considers contemporary art within the context of what came before, specifically Modern, pre-Modern and ancient cultural influences. We are conceptually interested in the interactions of artistic expressions, material histories, and ideas over the currents of time and through spatial movement.
Art Manzil’s curatorial projects unfold gently and with studied consideration. We take a multi-nodal approach to showcasing artistic ideas - through gallery exhibitions, collaborations with public institutions and other cultural projects. Through this non-linear conceptualization, we look to collapse structural barriers to understanding. This creates space for the slow reimagining of conceptual approaches to art. Importantly, it elevates contemporary art beyond the commercial imperatives of our times to bring greater understanding, importance and pleasure to how we view the arts, culture, and ourselves.
